NUJP AGUSAN DEL NORTE CHAPTER is founded on September 20, 2010.
The local chapter holds training and seminars for working press, students and academic staff.
The chapter now has 10 members.
Presently, the chapter had Bobby Henerale, a university professor, as its chair and Vice Chair Rodge Cultura who is a broadcast journalist.
The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, NUJP for short, is a lateral guild committed to securing the interests of the Filipino working press. It binds journalists to a covenant to ethical conduct and commitment to the public trust.
The union seeks to promote and safeguard the economic interest and social well-being of the working press, upgrade professional skills, raise the standards of journalistic ethics, carry out welfare program for its members, and foster fraternal solidarity with all journalists everywhere. The union stands on three legs: unity, integrity and dignity for the working press.
MEMBERSHIP
Section 1 (Definition) – For purposes of membership, a working journalist is defined as a practitioner of media engaged in news gathering, writing, editing, copyreading or other editorial activities or processing for a newspaper, magazine, or periodical of general circulation, or radio station or television channel or network, or news agency, or online outfit.
Section 1.a. The publication or online outfit must have been publishing regularly for at least one year, while the radio station or TV channel must have a daily news broadcast and be in operation for a similar period.
Section 2.a. The following shall be admitted to Union membership:
1. Journalists gainfully employed within the Union’s jurisdiction, as defined in Section 1 of this Article.
2. Journalists working fulltime for the Union, its Directorate, Commissions, Locals, or any other agencies or instrumentalities that the Union may establish.
Section 2.b. Media workers belonging to registered bargaining units affiliated to the union shall enjoy the rights and privileges of membership.
Section 3. The following shall be eligible to retain their Union membership subject to the applicable provisions in the Constitution and By-Laws:
1. Members granted leaves of absence by their employers
2. Members who accept fulltime office or employment within the Union
3. Members entering any government employment affected by the national interest during any leave o absence granted by their employers for that purpose.
4. Members who have become unemployed as a result of retrenchment or unfair labor practices by the employers
5. Union members who have retired and who are not otherwise eligible.
6. Union members who are in other countries but continuously perform their rights and obligations.
Section 4. (Associate Members) – Practitioners of media in allied professions, including public relations and advertising, as well as students working on campus newspapers, journalism teachers and teachers of mass communication or journalism, shall be eligible for associate membership.
Section 5. (Qualification) – No person actively serving the interests of employers as against the interest of the Union shall be eligible for membership.
